Moose Lake (entry point #16) is the most popular entry point in the Boundary Waters, based purely on the number of permits given out annually. At a daily permit quota of 27, it is the doorway to the wilderness for many people.

The motorized lake provides access to two very popular areas of the Quetico-Superior wilderness: Basswood Lake (via Prairie Portage) and Knife Lake. There is a Canadian customs station at the Prairie Portage, giving travelers access to the Quetico. Outfitters on Moose provide motorized tow services to several points up the lake. Moose Lake is also a very popular entry point for winter travelers, especially mushers heading up to the Knife Lake area.
