Monument Portage
From BWCAWiki
Monument Portage is an 80 rod portage between Swamp Lake and Ottertrack Lake on the U.S.-Canada border. It appears to be named after a prominent metal boundary marker on the portage.
Description
The western end of Monument Portage is located in a shallow bay of Ottertrack Lake with a sandy landing. The portage trail climbs a significant hill and then descends to a terribly mucky corner of Swamp Lake. There is a constructed wooden landing here, although it is relatively narrow.
Watersheds
Monument Portage crosses between two watersheds. Swamp Lake on the east flows into Saganaga Lake, part of the Maligne River watershed, while Ottertrack on the west flows into Knife Lake, part of the Basswood River watershed. While only separated by 80 rods at Monument Portage, waters from these two lakes do not meet until Lac La Croix.
