Campsites

There are nine campsites on the United States (southern and western) side of Maraboeuf, all in the southern half of the lake. There are two Canadian campsites on the northern end of the lake. The Canadian shore is part of La Verendrye Provincial Park.

Connections

  • The Granite River flows into Maraboeuf Lake through Devil's Elbow, a 180° turn in the river. A small navigable pour-over leads into the southeastern corner of the lake.
  • The Gneiss hiking trail connects the end of the Gunflint Trail area with the southwestern end of Maraboeuf. This trail may not be maintained.
  • The Granite River flows out of Maraboeuf Lake at the northern end of the lake through Horsetail Rapids. These whitewater rapids are runnable by expert canoeists only; a 27 rod portage leads around the east side of the rapids. Beyond Horsetail Rapids is Saganaga Falls (4 ft) and Saganaga Lake.

Fishing

Lake trout, walleye, northern pike.

Natural history

The north half of Maraboeuf Lake was burned by the 1995 Sag Corridor Fire. Jackpine regrowth was well established by the time the Ham Lake Fire reburned the entire area in May, 2007.
