Gunflint Lake is a large border lake over 7 miles long north of the Gunflint Trail. Parts of the lake are over a mile wide. No part of the lake is within the BWCAW, although it may be paddled in order to connect South Lake and the northeastern BWCAW with the Granite River and Saganaga Lake along the Border Route.

Gunflint Lake, which trends ENE-WSW, has a reputation for often being windy, presenting a challenge for those trying to cross the lake from east to west.

There is public boat access at the western end of the lake.

Fishing

Lake trout, walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass.

Outfitters and businesses

Gunflint Lodge and Gunflint Pines Resort and Campground are both located on the south shore of the lake, accessible via the Gunflint Trail.
