Ely is a city in St. Louis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,724 at the 2000 census. The city is best known by outsiders as the most popular gateway into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness by way of either the Fernberg Road or the Echo Trail.

Ely is home to the International Wolf Center. The IWC teaches people about the importance of wolves both in Minnesota and the world.
